Meet Your Therapist

Hi there! My name is Waseem Amin (he/him) and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Virginia with a Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling earned at Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Psychology from George Mason University.

I’ve had the joy of working largely with fellow trans and queer folks in my 6+ years as a counselor, allowing me to specialize in gender-affirming, culturally-responsive, and neurodivergence-affirming care.

Being an Arab and trans person has profoundly enriched and refined my therapeutic practice. My upbringing in a different part of the world followed by building a second home for myself in the States made the term ‘bicultural’ resonate heavily. Spaces meant for one of my communities usually disregarded or even conflicted with the other, and vice versa. Acculturation meant feeling the need to leave part of myself at the door, alerting me to the scarcity of settings that are truly inclusive in practice.

These experiences heightened my understanding of unmet needs in healthcare as I entered the mental health field. Intersectionality and the fluid nature of authenticity rose to the forefront of my counseling philosophy, allowing me to weave cultural humility into every step of the healing journey. It is this commitment to comprehensive and attuned care that led to the founding of Kheir Counseling: you deserve healthcare that doesn’t just accept but celebrates every part of you.

Our work together will be collaborative and evidence-based, which means we get the benefit of tried and true treatments on your terms at the pace that best suits your individual needs. I will always champion your role as an active participant in your own care, ensuring that our work flows in concert with your evolving needs and priorities.

I’m also an avid believer in the importance of community and healing through significant relationships, which is part of what helped me appreciate couples counseling more deeply. In both individual and partnered spaces, we have the opportunity to cultivate skills such as effective communication, perspective-taking, and psychological flexibility, all of which nurture both internal alignment and harmonious relationships.

It has been a privilege and an honor getting to help folks build the life they always wanted, and I eagerly look forward to helping you pave your own path to joy and fulfillment. If you are looking for informed support on your healing journey and think we might be a good fit, feel free to contact me or book a free consultation.
